Training Philosophy: Ellie's Story

Ellie, our 9th Great Dane, baffled me from the beginning. She was unable to focus on anything for more than 3 or 4 seconds, ignored
or growled at us and reacted with lunges and wild barking to everything from other dogs, to hats, to kittens on TV. Brief moments of
communication were lost amidst growing frustration and conflict.

I began to read, research and re-assess what I knew and much of what I believed about about our relationship with animals. I started
recognizing Ellie’s fears and soon we found a mutual space. She learned to trust and I learned to look across, not down.

Ellie brought me to PawsWISE, where training is based on the solid science of positive reinforcement, infused with compassion.
Undesirable behaviors are ignored or prevented and fade as they are replaced by the ones we reinforce. The absence of
punishment and the predictability of rewards leads to confidence and trust as your dog joyfully engages with you in the
learning process.
