Suggested Reading

Below are some helpful reads if you want to learn more about training and
teaching your canine family member. Lots more are available on Dogwise.com
They carry only Dog friendly training/behavior literature and DVD's,
as well as a good variety of interactive toys.

BAr

“Bones Would Rain From the Sky, Deepening our Relationship with Dogs,” by Suzanne
Clothier. With compassion and humor, skilled trainer Clothier opens our eyes to how dogs
perceive our world. A great read for any dog lover and the book that first helped me
to see through Ellie’s eyes.

Bar

“The Culture Clash”, by Jean Donaldson - A landmark book that explains what dogs
are/aren't and breaks down popular but destructive myths.

Bar

“The Other End of the Leash”, and “For the Love of a Dog” - Patricia McConnell, Ph.D.
Both great books that combine training advice, personal stories and helpful bits of
biology to increase your understanding of your canine friends.

Bar

“Control Unleashed”, by Leslie McDevitt - The foundation of the PawsWISE training
approach, this book offers creative, deeply empathic and scientifically sound methods
for helping anxious, reactive dogs become confident and focused, but can be used
with any dog.

Bar

“Before and After Getting your Puppy”, by Dr. Ian Dunbar - An iconic behaviorist’s
classic on the positive approach to raising a happy, well behaved dog.

Bar

“Don’t Shoot the Dog”, by Karen Pryor. A classic book on how to use positive
reinforcement to change the behavior of anyone from your dog to your spouse.
Great science and delightful, entertaining reading by the queen of clicker training.
Also terrific is her newest book, ‘Inside the Animal Mind”

Bar

“The Power of Positive Dog Training” by Pat Miller - A basic, easy to understand primer
on how to use positive reinforcement for training a wide variety of behaviors from one
of the most highly respected dog friendly trainers in the world.
